ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a major public health problem worldwide, with a high prevalence between the ages of 15 and 25 in most Western countries.Various factors play a role in causing sexually transmitted infections, of which Chlamydia trachomatis is one of the most common organisms involved in causing these diseases(1, 2). Because many of these infections are asymptomatic in people and their treatment is challenging, The present study aimed to investigate the prevalence of C. trachomatis worldwide through a systematic review and meta-analysis MATERIALS AND METHODS A systematic literature search was conducted for original research articles published in Medline, Web of Science and Embase databases from 2000 to 2024. Statistical analysis was performed using STATA 14 software to report the prevalence of C. trachomatis in patients with STDs worldwide. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION In prevalence studies, 17288 C. trachomatis clinical isolates were collected 80 countries around the world. The frequency of C. trachomatis infection was 41.8 %. Based on case reports/case series studies, lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) and urethritis were the most common diseases. Also, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was the most reported co-infection. The highest and lowest cases were in the USA (43 cases) and Spain (22 cases), respectively.
